Class of 2021 Loyola University Chicago, Criminal Justice & Psychology Year started at TSAS: 2011, 3rd grade My experience at St. Anthony was something I can never forget. It was the first place where I was allowed to learn freely without being treated differently from other students. I doubt I would be anywhere close to where I am now as a person without my time at St. Anthony’s. I’m truly able to engage with people and the world in ways that would’ve been impossible otherwise. Academics: The biggest thing that helped me in academic growth was the fact that I was able to learn at my own pace. If I was excelling in a subject I was given the ability to work ahead and grow in the classes I was so passionate about. If I was having trouble with other subjects the teachers were always ready to be there to help me and understand anything that may have been confusing. The duel credit program honestly gave me some invaluable skills that have helped me succeed in my college career. It taught me to be unafraid to engage with professors and be able to really excel on my own when there weren’t any teachers or parents to push me to study or work. Therapeutic and Social: The services at St Anthony really helped understand how to regulate my own emotions. At St. Anthony’s I was finally in an environment where I could learn how to communicate with people in a positive way and that is something I will always treasure. I was given for the first time an open and honest opportunity to make friends. I wasn’t the weird kid I was just a kid at that was something so special to me. At St. Anthony’s I was able to make lifelong friends. Life Skills and Independence: The school really helped become independent both in academics and life in general. Class of 2024 TCU Year started at TSAS: 2018, 7th grade My experience here at TSAS has been amazing. I have grown so much. I came here not knowing a lot of skills and with a lot of social anxiety and now I’m holding two job and have a lot of friends outside of school. TSAS has helped me develop the skills to get not just one job but two and become a great leader. I work at Chick fil a as a Team lead, running the drive thru and running the shift in general. I’m just short of a manager at chick fil a. I also just got a job recently at a nutrition bar in Frisco and work at both of those places on saturday. Academics: I had a lot of trouble with school before I came here when it came to focusing and learning which ways I can learn and get work done best. Now I’m able to do a lot more and use my skills I have learned here to hold myself accountable and get the work done correctly instead of procrastinating. Dual Credit helped me learn what college will be like once I graduate from high school. It also gave me 3 credit hours that I can use to help put me closer to graduate. Therapeutic and Social: I learned to use the rude and mean things people say about me as motivation to prove myself. Typing documents instead of writing because my handwriting was never good and hasn’t ever been good. The school’s social environment helped me build up the courage to get a job and work in fast food while learning customer service skills and talking to people I normally wouldn’t talk to. Class of 2023 Sales Associate at Tyler’s, 2+ yrs Year started at TSAS: 2020, 10th grade My overall experience at TSAS was great. TSAS helped me grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I made a lot of good friends at TSAS and got a lot of support in areas that I needed. Academics: Personally, the academics at TSAS were approached very differently than past schools. I came to TSAS in need of academic support. I felt very comfortable with the workload and I was getting the help I needed. I was able to get more one-on-one help that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. Therapeutic and Social: TSAS was very supportive and understanding of everybody's needs. They had special rooms to go into if you wanted to be alone to help with anxiety or just be in a quiet space. I learned a lot of good coping skills that still help me today. Before TSAS I wasn’t really a part of just one friend group. I had a few friends that were a part of different friend groups. I liked being a part of sports and doing social activities with people at TSAS. Everybody was very inclusive and I enjoyed finally feeling like I was part of a group. TSAS definitely helped me gain more social skills and help me improve ones I already had. I enjoyed being a part of athletics and I liked going to watch the basketball games and the level 4 outings were always fun! I also enjoyed being a part of the Student Council and I was fortunate enough to be a part of it for all 3 years. Life Skills and Independence: TSAS really helped in boosting my confidence and I learned I'm capable of anything I put my mind too. I learned that it is okay to ask for help and I overall just feel more confident in myself and my abilities. I continued to practice advocating for myself and my needs and I still do that today when working at Tyler’s. I wish that I found TSAS just a year earlier so that I could have had my whole high school experience at there.
